This site is a collaborative effort, but my goal is to encourage more people to get outside and do the things they love with the people they love. Our 9-5 can be a grind, and it can be exhausting, but there is healing and restoration with being outside, or just getting outside of your hustle (shameless website plug).
When was the last time you heard complete silence? Or the last time you just sat and soaked in a moment or just appreciated your surroundings? It’s almost a foreign concept to a lot of us. Over the Christmas break I traveled to Utah and as I sat at the summit during sunrise I had to FORCE myself to sit down, shut up and stop thinking. How ridiculous is this? I subconsciously kept thinking I had to do something, or I needed to head back down, or what about that deadline in January? Our bodies and minds are so accustomed to constant stimulation we rarely ever just sit down, turn everything off and just be. I encourage you to step outside and try this, find somewhere quiet, close your eyes and just breathe for 5-10 minutes; no music, no phone, just silence. Now, I consider myself a Ron Swanson type guy so if I can try it, you can too. This is just a start, and with any new habit or activity you obviously have to practice. The outdoors just reinforces how important and vital turning your mind off can be.
Anytime I break free of my typical grind I feel refreshed and full of energy when I get back to my normal routine, specifically at work, and it’s healthy; healthy for your mind, body and soul. For 2018 I encourage you to think of a couple things you want to see, or a couple of things you want to do. Don't look at it as a hobby, or something different, think about it like something you NEED. If you’re looking for resolutions on nutrition and eating, check out Alli’s page. If you’re looking to add some adventure to your life this is the right spot for you.
I got serious about this back in 2015 and since then I stopped living vicariously through others and finally embraced my inner bad ass to live the life I wanted. I’ve made new friends, created so many memories, and have learned more about myself in the process. Do you have any goals for 2018, or has adding some adventure to your life had a positive impact on you? If so drop a comment below.
Lastly, the outdoor/hiking/backpacking scene has blown up over the past couple of years. There are people who make a living out of their adventures. Why? Because there are hordes of people living vicariously through their life. Don't live life through the eyes of someone else, make 2018 be the year you dive face first into the life of adventure you want.
